There is a lot of excitement at figleaves HQ around the launch of our beautiful new DD+ nightwear collection. We caught up with Alexandra Dorrell our Trainee Buyer for Womenswear to get the inside scoop on the inspirations behind the new collection, as well as what it’s like to be a buyer here at figleaves.com.
How did you become a buyer at figleaves? I started at figleaves as an intern working on both the men’s and women’s departments. The Trainee Buyers on each department had just been promoted to Assistant Buyers, so I was asked to fill in as a Trainee Buyer. After 2 months I was taken on as the permanent Trainee Buyer on Womenswear.
What do you do in a typical day? The great thing about buying is no two days are ever the same. Day to day my role varies greatly, I could be doing anything from ordering samples from suppliers, researching new trends or meeting with marketing to suggest product ideas for our latest campaign.
What do you enjoy most about your job? I love all aspects of my job but going to brand viewings and seeing all their new products is definitely my favourite bit. I find it really exciting to see what will be coming up in the next few seasons.
Can you tell us a bit about the new DD+ nightwear? Our DD+ lingerie has always been our most popular range so it seemed a natural progression to offer DD+ nightwear as well. Developed under our DD+ brand Midnight Grace, we have created a capsule range which includes key pieces that can be worn together or mix and matched with customer’s existing items.
How does designing DD+ nightwear compare with normal nightwear? The principal of designing is the same for any shape or size you have to consider everything from prints to colours and most importantly fit. The difference with DD+ nightwear is that you have to take more care to ensure that the bodice cut and coverage will flatter a bigger bust while still retaining the same sexiness and comfort that customers want.
Which is your favourite piece from the new collection? I love the Pink Chemise, I think it’s a great colour and has really pretty lace detailing at the bust. I also think Cami’s are great as you can wear them with PJ bottoms you already have or with the matching Midnight Grace PJ bottoms.
