Hello!
I’m Will Cleare, HR Business Partner here at figleaves.com. I’ve been working here for nearly 3 years now which seems incredible as it still feels like only yesterday that I started. I live in Cambridge with my wife and 2 young children. When I’m not HRing or being Dad I love to get involved in sport which sees me regularly turn out for my local rugby team (Renegades RUFC) as well as run in races from 5k to Half-Marathons.
Today is the first of what I hope will become a regular guest slot and I want to start off by writing about creating a great place to work.
Here in the HR team we work really hard on how we can positively enhance our peoples’ working lives and really engage them in defining what makes figleaves.com. Whether it’s through adding to our collection of tangible benefits - we’re very proud of these – or improving access to learning opportunities, we’re always listening and responding to feedback from all levels of the business.
Take our PDRs (Performance Development Reviews) for example. These are our appraisals and provide every member of the team a detailled and dedicated 1-2-1 with their line manager to discuss progress to date and objectives and aspirations for the coming months. The current format is based purely on feedback gathered after each cycle to make sure it’s relevant and fit for purpose.
We make sure everyone understands what’s happening across figleaves by facilitating a Monthly Briefing. This is not your usual Directors at the front talking strategy, strategy, strategy (although we still do this twice a year!). Our Monthly Briefings are a development opportunity for anyone at any level to get closer to the numbers, work on their presentation skills and develop that confidence to talk with passion and authority on how they contribute toward the figleaves success story.
At this month’s Briefing we will be launching our Living the Values awards through which we can recognise (and reward!!) those members of the figleaves team who stand out in how they approach their work, colleagues and customers. We’ll dedicate an entire blog to our values another time, so please keep an eye out.
Then we have our figlife (social) committee who work tirelessly to put on our Christmas and Summer parties as well as putting on payday breakfasts and payday drinks. Perhaps most importantly of all is the work figlife do in organising fundraising events, whether Santa Runs or sample sales – they do a fantastic job raising oodles of cash for worthy causes.
We don’t rest on our laurels though and want to keep developing our workplace...so we want to hear from you!
What makes a great workplace for you? Do you currently work somewhere with a different and great way of making your working life better? What do wish you could have to make your workplace a nicer place to be?

We’re listening!
