British women skimp on lingerie

British women are a sorry lot when it comes to spending money on lingerie, according to Mintel. A new survey reveals that 60 per cent of us only buy underwear when it needs to be replaced, with 30 per cent needing a special occasion to kick us into action. No excuses at figleaves.com - particularly when there's a sale on. Best be quick, though, as the sale ends 28 May.

Cate on the red carpet

Cate_cannes_2 Don't know about you but I'm very excited about seeing the new Indiana Jones movie this weekend. Here's Cate Blanchett at the premiere in Cannes the other day - looking very slender after giving birth a mere five weeks ago. Her secret? According to LA Times blog The Dish Rag, it's possible that support lingerie played a part: "You should see my underwear," Blanchett told reporters. Those of us not on the A list can also shape up fast: controlwear here.

Canterbury and the Cup

Portsmouth Very excited about Portsmouth winning the FA Cup on Saturday (no, really - my grandparents used to live there so it's a part of the country I am very fond of). Anyway, NZ underwear brand Canterbury must also be feeling pleased today - it's Pompey's official kit sponsor. Click here to shop.

News from Cannes

Kung_fu_panda_3 Loads of great pictures coming through from this year's Cannes Film Festival but this one is my particular favourite - Anglina Jolie, Jack Black and furry friend at the Kung Fu Panda premiere. So in a welcome break from our usual red carpet coverage (strapless bras under strapless dresses, backless under backless, etc), let's pay tribute to the panda - click here for our bamboo underwear.

The Fong Song

Lots to talk about today (including Triumph's solar powered bra, as featured in the Daily Telegraph). But let's focus on The Apprentice instead - and on dark-horse-turned-front-runner Lee McQueen and his enthusiasm for selling "fongs" in particular. His sales technique - estimating all his customers a size too small - worked a treat at the National Wedding Show in Birmingham and the sparkly undies duly flew off the stand. Nothing so tacky at figleaves.com, of course, but as a tribute to Lee we have rounded up a few diamante-strewn numbers here.

Negligees, Thai laws and Natasha

  • "Nothing at all could be nicer than a negligee," says The Daily Telegraph. Couldn't agree more; click here for our selection.
  • Don't go commando in Thailand; it's against the law to leave the house without wearing underwear says the Sunday Mail.
  • Natasha Richardson had an inadvertant panty-flash moment at the Met Ball last week, records ThinkFashion.com. A nude thong under a pale pink dress? We approve.
  • Olympic news: The Japanese Swimming Federation has given Japan's sportswear makers until 30 May to come up with a performance swimsuit more effective than Speedo's Fastskin LZR or risk the nation's swimmers defecting to Speedo. More in The Times.
  • Design your own bra at the inaugural Breastival Festival, says Gigwise.
