The bra: spend or save?

And today's hot debating topic is brought to you by lingerie blog Eve's Apples: "Is a good bra worth a high price?" it asks.

RealSimple.com has been looking into the merits of various wardrobe essentials and is in no doubt when it comes to bras: spend. Here's what their experts say: "Bras are a good investment item because they can affect your overall look," says Tim Gunn, chair of the department of fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design. And according to image consultant Amanda Sanders, "A great bra can make a 5- to 10-pound difference in your appearance."

Joanna Lumley, Lulu, Ann Robinson are all great examples of bus pass holders who don't look like Granny Grump. The baby boomer generation who wore hot pants and mini skirts and loved fashion are still around. We may be a liitle plumper around the middle and not quite as svelt as we once were but we certainly haven't given up the desire to look good and even sexy.

Finding fabulous bras has become so much easier since designers and manufacturers realised that owners of big boobs don't want to be strapped into hideous engineered contraptions. We love the great ranges now on offer but where are the pretty sexy knickers to match? Thongs and tiny bikinis are not attractive on slightly 'softer' tummies and shorts are only great on size 8 boyish frames. Passion killer control knickers do exactly what they say on the label! We don't want granny knickers. Where are the pretty lacy styles which sit just below the waist, have slightly less than highcut legs and are flattering? Gossard and M&S used to have a ranges in lots of colours.
This is a plea from real women - the alternative is to succumb to Bridgette Jones jobs or go commando!!!!!
