France: it's all about le underwear

Am I the only one who can't get dressed these days without asking myself What Would Carla Wear? (So now I'm restricted to black, navy, grey and white with the occasional flash of purple.) Anyway, following last week's UK-Sarko love-in, the Sunday Mail found a nice French model to tell us why French women are so chic: it's all about the underwear, apparently. "Whatever weight you are, with the right underwear your clothes look perfect," explains Alejandra Welsh.

• Whatever you do, don't try and wash Cheryl Cole's underwear, says Now magazine online. "I can't bear other people washing my undergarments," she said. "I find it quite violating."

Nicole, the FA and killer knickers

• Well it's been a busy weekend on the knicker front. First, here's mum-to-be Nicole Kidman boarding a plane and unwittingly revealing her pretty lace knickers - it's all over the papers in her native Oz. You could pull her up for not wearing suitably low rise pants with those jeans; personally, I'm all for sexy undies with a baby bump. image: big pictures
• Football news: the FA has written to the clubs to warn them not to let players show the brand names of their underpants. Has the world gone mad? The Mirror thinks so.
• Most alarming of all, The Sun reports that a nurse in Edinburgh went into anaphylactic shock after slipping into her new control pants (not guilty - she bought them from another retailer). Luckily, she was in A&E when she collapsed and adrenalin was close to hand.

Pretty pastels for Easter bunnies

Ready for the Easter weekend? Pretty pastels seem to be a bit of a theme right now and with perfect seasonal timing they have just arrived on site. Left to right: broderie anglaise in mint from Aubade, Lejaby's sweet purple florals, and Chantelle's sparkly yellow.

Thanks to Style Dash for drawing our attention to a scary new trend: girdles - ie control pants - for men. Well if women can slip on a pair of shaping knickers instead of putting in the hours at the gym then it's fair enough for men to do the same - but I can't say the thought is very appealing. In the meantime, he can always borrow your Spanx...

Calvin Klein name new lingerie face

Gorgeous actress Eva Mendes will follow in the footsteps of Natalia Vodianova and Kate Moss as she is today named the new face/body of Calvin Klein Underwear!

The slightly more voluptuous Mendes will appear in advertising from Fall 2008, which ties in with the launch of Seductive Comfort. It will also coincide with the launch of a yet to be named fragrance.

Tom Murry, President and COO of Calvin Klein Inc., said "We are trying to get across that these new products are for fuller busted, shaplier kinds of women and when we looked at the talent, Eva was right."
