Jen's man's got great taste in underwear

Looking through the underwear archives this week I found a great picture of Jennifer Aniston's most recent squeeze, Paul Sculfor, on one of his first modelling shoots back in 1992. Despite the Take That-esque look I notice he's wearing a pair of Hom boxers.

I can't help but wonder what the future holds for sexy Alberto, below, Hom's current model, who doesn't look a million miles from this recent pic of Paul.

In glorious technicolour

Not so summery, then, this weekend - at least in the UK - so we might as well get started on autumn/winter. One of the big trends coming up (and one of UK Elle's "10 essential buys" for the new season) is coloured opaque tights, so here are a few suitably colourful examples by Jonathan Aston to cheer us up over another waterlogged week.

Wacoal in InStyle

If you've had flick through the August issue of UK InStyle, you'll no doubt have spotted this full page ad for Wacoal, one of our favourite brands from the States (my mum for one is a big fan of its reliably well fitting bras). Just arrived on figleaves.com is this strapless bra from the Halo Lace range. What we love? Taking the plunge

New Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has already made an impact in the media. Was it her response to the terror attacks? Nope. It was her cleavage that got (male) media tongues wagging. Jacqui, of course, should be able to wear what she likes, but it's well known that men find it difficult to concentrate on anything other than cleavage if it's on show. So if she want her words rather than her wobbly bits to be the focus of attention we'd recommend a minimiser.

Kimberley's control pants

Everybody wants shapewear this morning - the phones have been red hot thanks to Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh stepping out in her control pants last night. Wise girl - satin can be very unforgiving but a good pair of shaping knickers will have you looking your bulge-free best.

• Not arriving at figleaves.com any time soon but an interesting underwear development nevertheless: the US air force is ploughing millions of dollars into devising high-tech underwear that can be worn for weeks at a time without washing, says canada.com. Nice.
• Kate Moss has been dropped by Agent Provocateur in favour of a younger model, says vogue.co.uk. We'll have you, Kate! (We'll also have Joseph Corre's MBE if it's going begging).
• Amy watch: Amy Winehouse has been showing her bra straps again. Our spies at Elle Macpherson Intimates tell us that she was spotted in the black and beige spotted Harmonies bra at the recent Isle of Wight Festival.
