Alex's bra faux pas

Alex_curran_small A summertime 'don't' for you today, courtesy of newlywed WAG Alex Curran.

White bra under white vest top? No, no, no. You see, this is why we are always banging on about investing in a nude t-shirt bra to wear under your white tee.

Avoid doing an Alex: shop here for nude t-shirt bras in the UK; in the US.

Vitamin A in Red

Red_vix_3 Vit_a

Red magazine put together its holiday checklist in the July issue; one of its top three "versatile bikinis" was this turquoise set with rings by celeb favourite (Jessica Alba wears it, y'know) Vitamin A. Yours for £45 (top) and £44 (bottoms).

Miraclesuit in Life & Style

Life & Style rounded up the season's best one-pieces for its July issue. It's verdict on the Miraclesuit? "So slimming! We love how the clever ruching visually trims inches from thicker waistlines!" So that's a go-buy, then.

Come fly with me...

Simon writes:  I'm not the best air passenger in the world, but if you wanted to get me 33,000 feet above the ground there are few better ideas than this one. An Ecuadorean airline, ICARO, is giving its passengers a 10 minute lingerie catwalk show mid-flight. Makes a change from "Tea or coffee sir", that's for sure...

Amy's new bra

Ooh look, Amy Winehouse has a new bra. After showing off her blue and yellow Sloggi here there and everywhere, she turned up at Glastonbury in this new and equally zingy Flirt balconette, also from figleaves.com. Still loving those bright straps for summer, everyone.

What to wear in France, Sweden and Oz

Our essential guide to men's swimwear etiquette around the world:

  • In France, it's considered very unhygenic to swim in anything other than the skimpiest smalls, discovers chastened FT columnist Matthew Engel.
  • Our US buyer Karen reports that all the cool Swedish boys in Magaluf were wearing logo waistband boxers (mainly Bjorn Borg but also a few Calvins) under their boardshorts, both in and out the pool.
  • Newlywed James Packer's budgie smugglers mark him out as a true Australian, notes an approving Melbourne Herald Sun.
  • Doesn't matter what you wear - men are banned altogether from Italy's first women-only beach in Riccione, reports The Times. At first glance, a fabulous destination for any woman in a bikini panic; on the other hand, don't you think women are generally more critical?

Bright bras in Heat

Have you noticed that Victoria Beckham's bras are becoming a little fluorescent these days? Heat magazine certainly has, and featured this hot pink Sexy Panties and Naughty Knickers bra, £39, in its fluoro bra feature this week. One of our big lingerie trends this season, Posh's neon bra also gets the Heat seal of approval: "The clever use of fluro not only tunes into the current nu-rave vibe, but also keeps all eyes where she wants them," it opines.

These pipes are not designed to carry bras and knickers...

Simon writes:  Here at figleaves towers (well, our 2nd floor 1960s office block) we know that if there is one thing we care more about than wearing the right underwear, it's treating it well even when you have finished with it .  So imagine our shock when we read the news here that someone had disposed of their undies via the lavatory and caused a flood and £15,000 worth of damage, causing an outraged council official to proclaim 'these pipes are not designed to carry bras and knickers'.  This is no way to treat your smalls, no matter how last season they are.
